Can Chromecast be used with Roku TV?

Chromecast is compatible with Roku TV. Chromecast is compatible with all devices having an HDMI connector. And all Roku TVs have this feature, independent of manufacturer. Plug the Chromecast directly into the Roku TV. Then, switch your television to the proper input. And you may now cast media files to your Roku TV.

Seven steps to use Chromecast on Roku TV

1: Connect the Chromecast to the HDMI port on your Roku TV.

There are several Roku TV makers. Among them are TCL, RCA, Sharp, Hisense, and Westinghouse.

And all of the Roku TV types have numerous HDMI ports. Connect your Chromecast to one of these devices.

2: Plug the Chromecast into an electrical outlet.

Your Chromecast will not function unless it is powered on.

Therefore, attach the power adapter to the Chromecast. Then, connect the adapter to a power supply.

3: Select the proper input source on your Roku TV

HDMI ports on Roku TVs are numbered sequentially. Check the number of the HDMI port into which the Chromecast was inserted.

It could be HDMI 1, HDMI 2, or a similar designation.

Then, change the input of your Roku TV to the corresponding HDMI port.

The Roku TV’s Home page provides the simplest method for changing the input. Additionally, you can do so using the Settings menu.

But I will provide instructions for both.

How to change the input on your Roku TV using the Home screen

  1. Press the Roku remote’s Home button.
  2. Click the right arrow button to navigate to the Channels section.

Determine the appropriate HDMI input and pick it.

How to change the input on your Roku TV via the Settings menu

  1. Scroll down and select Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Choose TV Inputs
  3. Press the right arrow button on the remote.
  4. Select the appropriate HDMI input.

If this is not your first time using Chromecast, you should be able to cast content. You may proceed to Step 7.

However, if you have not yet set up your Chromecast…

Continue to the following steps.

4: Download and install the Google Home application on your mobile device.

The Google Home application is downloadable on iOS and Android devices.

5: Connect Chromecast to the Google Home app.

Step 1: Open the Google Home app on your mobile device. Then, click the Begin button.

Step 2:  Sign in to your Google account.

Step 3: Create a home for your devices as the third step. Create a nickname for your residence. Then enter your address. Then press Next.

Step 4: The application should begin searching for devices. When the app asks which device you wish to configure, choose Chromecast.

Step 5: Click the Next button once the software discovers your Chromecast.

Step 6: A code will appear on the app and the Roku device. Verify that the codes match. Then select Yes to continue.

Step 7: Select the location of your Chromecast in the seventh step. This might aid in naming and arranging Google Home app-enabled gadgets.

Step 8: Connect your Chromecast to WiFi as the eighth step. Make sure it’s the same one your phone is using.

That is all. Chromecast and the Google Chrome application are now integrated.

If you have a problem with linking, you may just repeat the instructions.

6: Integrate services with your Chromecast

To cast from apps such as Netflix or Spotify…

These applications or services must be added to Chromecast. This is how:

First, select Media from the Google app’s main screen.

You will see categories such as Video, Music, and Podcast in Step 2. Choose the category of the app from which you wish to cast.

If it is a streaming service, such as Netflix or HBO Max, choose Video.

Select Music for apps like Spotify and Soundcloud.

Step 3: Select the desired application. And click the Link Account button. Next, enter your account information.

7: You may begin casting.

Simply tap an app on your phone from which you would like to cast.

For instance, if you wish to cast a Netflix video on your Roku TV using Chromecast…

Simply launch the Netflix app on your mobile device. Then, tap the casting icon in the app’s upper-right corner. It’s the one with the box containing the WiFi icon.

The window should appear. Choose your Chromecast there.

You should now be able to view Netflix on your Roku TV.

And the approach is identical for all other applications.

Now I realize that a visual guide would also be helpful.

Can Roku TV be cast without Chromecast?

Roku TV may be cast without Chromecast. You may utilize either a laptop or a mobile device. Simply confirm that your Roku TV and other devices are connected to the same WiFi network. And that they both own the application you wish to cast from.

When Chromecast debuted in 2013…

Currently, most mobile devices and laptops cannot cast.

And the majority of televisions are not intelligent.

However, technological improvements…

Today, it is simple to cast from a smartphone or laptop to a television. Even without a third-party device such as Chromecast.

I will explain the casting procedure using a phone and a laptop.

Nevertheless, you must first prepare your Roku TV for casting.

How to set up your Roku television for casting

There are two prerequisites before you can cast from another device to your Roku TV:

Your Roku TV and the other device must first be connected to the same WiFi network. If not, your device will be incapable of detecting your Roku TV for casting.

Second, your Roku TV should have the same streaming application as your mobile device.

Therefore, whether you are casting from Netflix or Spotify…

You must ensure that your Roku TV has this application.

Now, if your Roku TV lacks it…

You can download and install it directly from the Roku Channel Store.

How to add applications or channels to a Roku TV

Step 1: Press the Home button on your Roku control.

Step 2: Navigate to and select Streaming Channels.

Step 3: Select Search Channels in. Then, enter the app or channel that you wish to install.

Step 4: Once you’ve located the desired channel, click the Add Channel button.

Step 5: If you have a Roku PIN, enter it here.

The channel should then begin downloading and installing on your Roku TV.

Now, prior to casting on your Roku TV…

You must also confirm that your television has the most recent upgrades.

Roku operating system (OS) obsolescence is a typical cause of casting failure.

How to upgrade the OS on your Roku TV

  1. Press the Home button on the Roku remote control.
  2. Scroll down and click the Settings option.
  3. Click System.
  4. Select the System update option.
  5. Select the Verify Now option.

If updates are available, your Roku TV should immediately begin downloading them. Simply wait for the download and installation to complete. Your television should then restart.

So, let’s conduct a recap.

Have you confirmed that your Roku TV and other devices are connected to the same WiFi network?

Have you updated your Roku television?

And were you successful in installing the required app or channel?

If you answered affirmatively to each of these…

It indicates that your Roku TV is now capable of casting.

How to cast from a laptop to a Roku TV

Step 1: Open a Google Chrome web browser on your laptop as the first step.

Using a different web browser?

If so, Chrome can be downloaded and installed directly from its official website.

Chrome will be utilized because it provides an inbuilt option for casting. Not all browsers support it.

Step 2: Open the webpage from which you will be casting. Streaming services with official websites include Netflix and YouTube.

Again, confirm that your Roku TV has the application version of the website you intend to use.

Step 3: Select a media file from the opened website in the third step.

Then, your Roku TV should play the media file you downloaded from the website.
